These days just about every hip vegiboy or girl has his or her own recipe for “the best” or the “most authentic” or “the sexiest” hummus.  And the reason is simply simple.  Hummus is easy.  And when it comes to easy eats I would put hummus under the zero holds bar category of  creative cooking.  This party dippin’ favorite food can be made with just about anything you got on the shelf.  So here is my personal take on everybody’s “most yummy” snack.
What you’ll need:
About 2 cups garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
1/4 cup pitted kalamata olives
1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup fresh herbs (parsley is the choice for me, Â but cilantro, basil, or dill also works for the daring)
1/2 or more Teaspoon minced Jalapeno
4 (less or more) cloves minced garlic
1/4 cup Tahini (or in a pinch you can use raw sesame seeds)
1 Teaspoon Cumin
1/2 cup olive oil (less or more depending)
2 Tablespoons soy sauce (Really!)
Step one:
Put all the ingredients in a blender. Â Blend.
Done.
Hints:
The hummus will get creamy fast and may need some help. Â Feel free to stop and mix up the mess with a spoon and than mix on. Â If the hummus is not blending you may need to add more olive oil but be careful, too much oil will make for an easy blend but an oily mess come pita dippin’ time.
Garnish with some herbs, pepper, lime, whatever you like and serve with pita, chips, or sliced bread.
Be brave. You’ll find a world of suggestions online everything from adding liquid smoke to mashing in avocado to even blending in oranges. Â My advice- get to know the basics before you start with the chocolate capers.
