Never bad company here.  These tasty treats are a sweet, neat, and easy feat.

What you’ll need:
10 – 12 Pitted Dates (soaked and dried)
1/4 – 1/2 Cups ground almonds
1/2 cup dark chocolate for melting
1/2 Tablespoon of butter
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Full almonds for garnish

Step one:
Soak the dates in a bowl of water for at least 2 hours, or better still overnight.  Dry with a paper towel.  Chop into small pieces (smaller the better).

Step two:
Grind the almonds into a mashed, almost powder-like consistency. A coffee grinder works well for this.

Step three:
Mush it up.  On a clean surface, mix together one Tablespoon of the chopped dates with about one teaspoon of the almond powder by hand.  Roll and shape into small bite size cakes.  Repeat with remaining dates and almond powder till you have a small plate of delicious date cakes.  You can stop right here and begin your date night, or you can take it a step further.

Step four:
In a double boiler (or using small saucepan placed into a larger saucepan of boiling water), melt the dark chocolate by stirring constantly.  You can add about 1/2 a Tablespoon of butter here and just a pinch of cayenne pepper (to help bring out the chocolate-ness).  Once melted, spoon about one Tablespoon of chocolate onto each of the date cakes.  Let it cool just a moment before adding the almond garnish.

Step five:
Turn on a movie, talk about feelings, and bite into a feel good date that really takes the cake.
